Zäsur condenses an interruption into a single horizontal movement. Against a light, diffusely clouded pictorial space, a red line extends from edge to edge. At the sides it remains narrow and directional; at the centre it thickens into a physical accumulation of folded, raised paint. The line does not mark a clean division. It carries the event of interruption itself.
In language and music, the title denotes a caesura that structures a progression without bringing it to an end. The painting translates this relation into material terms: the atmospheric field remains perceptible across the entire surface, while the movement of paint gathers, compresses and changes direction at the centre. Before and after lie on the same trajectory; what distinguishes them is a change in tension.
As a recurring red line, the form connects continuity with transition. In Zäsur, however, it does not bind separate pictorial elements together, but absorbs the pressure of change. The interruption appears not as an empty interval between two completed states, but as a material concentration within an ongoing movement.
