Sakura begins with the intensity of a first moment: the first blossom, a first encounter, or the instant in which the boundaries of the self briefly loosen. The work does not treat such moments as permanent states. Their force lies in appearing, passing and becoming possible again.
The annual flowering of the cherry tree gives this rhythm a visible form. Return is not repetition without change; each blossom arrives within another year and another life. Colour and energetic movement hold the exhilaration of emergence together with the knowledge of its brevity.
Rather than offering a general instruction to live in the present, the painting attends to how perception can make a familiar world feel newly encountered—and how quickly that openness can recede.
