Polarität 3

Polarität 3 translates the series into the concentrated language of etching. Black and white do not confront one another as separate opposites. They cut into and overlap one another, bringing the image’s forms into view through mutual delimitation.

A crescent, a pyramid-like construction and an abstractly suggested ladder emerge from the compressed field of lines. The crescent opens a cosmic and cyclical register; the pyramid concentrates the composition in a stable, ascending geometry. The ladder relates different levels and establishes a vertical movement without defining a single route or fixed destination. Because it remains fragmentary and partly disappears within the overlays, it does not signify assured arrival but the possibility of transition.

Polarity therefore arises not only between black and white. It continues between curve and angle, transformation and stability, openness and construction. The ladder turns this opposition into a spatial relation: between the poles, a direction emerges along which perception can move. The etching holds these forces together in a tense structure in which each form acquires its contour only in relation to the others.
