Moll

Moll opens onto a nocturnal, almost stage-like scene. Several spectral figures emerge from the black printed surface. Their tall, dark head forms recall top hats; at different distances, they appear to move through a space of pale, stone-like forms suggestive of grave markers, walls and paths through a cemetery. The scene remains fragmentary yet possesses a clear direction: the figures cross the image like a silent procession.

Black is more than a background. It absorbs contours, binds the bodies together and allows individual apparitions to emerge only momentarily. The exposed paper sets light, distance and interruption against this density. Figures, stones and intervals follow one another like rhythmic units; their movement arises from the alternation between presence and erasure.

The title translates the musical minor mode not as a mere illustration of melancholy, but as a tonal order within the print. Darkness, pause and repetition structure the space like the low measures of a funeral procession. Moll holds its figures at the threshold between visibility and disappearance, giving their soundless movement a visual resonance.
