Midnight Dream belongs to the Midnight works, in which night appears not as an absence of visibility but as an altered condition of perception. The work depicts neither a particular dream nor a nocturnal landscape. It examines the moment when external orientation recedes and perception begins to form an inner space from sensory impressions, memory and expectation.
Golden concentrations emerge from layers of ultramarine blue, violet and black. Their rough, partially descending edges bind light to the surface, while a milky, luminous trace moves from the lower left through the centre towards the right edge. It has no unambiguous body: depending on the gaze, it appears as mist, reflection or movement. Between this trace and the weight of the dark fields, proximity and depth continually exchange positions.
The large-scale composition withholds both horizon and stable ground. Gold can be experienced simultaneously as material deposit and emerging space; dark passages condense into surface or open into an indeterminate depth. Dream therefore signifies no encoded narrative here, but another organisation of the visible: contours become permeable, scales unstable, and individual stimuli combine into a provisional yet convincing reality.
Together with Midnight Love, the work examines how darkness heightens sensitivity to minute material and optical changes. In Midnight Dream, this concentration turns inward. Pigment, light and memory become conditions of an image space that is not simply found, but continually formed through perception.
