A black cat forms the visual centre of Gedankenfaden. Above it, the loose white loops of unwound yarn are set against the taut geometry of a spider’s web. The two structures remain distinct, yet iridescent beads and drops run through both. The yarn continues as a pearl necklace around the cat’s neck, bringing play, ornament and construction into a shared formal movement.
Within a dark passage, a small spider is almost entirely embedded in the painted surface. Its red eyes are the clearest indication of its presence. One of the beads is drawn out by gravity into the form of a drop, within whose iridescent surface the reflection of a city condenses.
Beneath the cat, a black mask appears; further below lies Aoshima seen from above. A small boat-like form moves towards the landmass known as Cat Island. The feline motif is not simply repeated but carried through different states—from animal to mask and finally to a real place connected to it through cultural association.
The thread named in the title is not a single, continuously visible line. It emerges through transitions between motifs: yarn and web, necklace and drop, body and mask, reflection and landscape. Each form retains a trace of the one before it while opening onto a different scale and field of meaning. Gedankenfaden thus approaches thought as a process of transformation—neither linear nor arbitrary.
