Sonnenstich auf Ibiza belongs to the series Hermetische Inseln der Glückseligkeit. It approaches bliss not as a stable state, but as a threshold close to excess. The title makes this ambivalence physical: warmth and radiance intensify until orientation begins to shift.
Figuration dissolves into colour, gesture and reflected light. Acrylic and spray paint build an energetic field, while gold from Versailles catches the surrounding light and makes the surface change with the viewer’s position. The island is not depicted as a location; it persists as the concentrated afterimage of an experience.
Across the series, memories and phases of life appear as self-contained zones—separate from linear time, yet still accessible through colour and sensation. Here, happiness is held at its most intense and most precarious point.
