Geschmack der Sommersonnenwende condenses summer at the point of its greatest intensity. Heat, colour and movement are drawn into a field in which visual perception begins to approach another sense: the image appears almost capable of being tasted.

The painting emerged during a live performance with pianist and composer Roman Nagel in Cologne. Sound did not provide an illustration to follow; it acted as a temporal force within the painting process. Gesture, rhythm and chromatic density developed in direct relation to the unfolding composition.

Rather than preserving a single event, the work holds the instability of an experience at its threshold — between sensation and memory, immediacy and transformation.
