Dur

Dur condenses a dark, atmospheric movement into a small field of oil pastel on paper. Soft grey and black passages gather like cloud, smoke or a wave, while lighter areas open within them without forming a fixed horizon.

The musical title suggests a tonal condition rather than a literal subject. Conventionally associated with brightness, “major” is set against an image whose light remains contested by shadow. The work resists a simple emotional correspondence between title and colour.

Marks are rubbed, layered and partially erased, allowing the paper to carry both density and breath. What emerges is less a landscape than a changing register of pressure—an image held between gathering force and release.
