Sonnenaufgang auf Guadeloupe belongs to the series Hermetische Inseln der Glückseligkeit, in which places are approached less as geographical records than as condensed structures of memory.
Across the surface, light is translated into colour, rhythm and shifting density. The painting does not reconstruct a particular sunrise. Instead, it holds the moment in which a landscape becomes inseparable from the experience attached to it — a private island carried beyond its original location.
The work moves between radiance and dissolution. Forms remain open enough to evoke atmosphere without settling into a fixed view, allowing recollection to operate as a changing pictorial field rather than a stable image.
