Traum im seidenen Netz emerged through a collaborative painting process between Marlon Nikolai and artist Fae (Cara Lorena Höltgen). Across the surface, lines, translucent passages and denser fields of colour intersect to form a structure that appears simultaneously delicate and remarkably persistent.
The image of silk carries this tension. What appears almost weightless can possess extraordinary strength. Within the painting, the silken net therefore becomes more than a visual structure: it offers a way of thinking about how something as fleeting and immaterial as a dream might be held without becoming entirely fixed.
This relationship also opens an association with the idea of the dreamcatcher—the net as a structure through which dreams pass, are caught or remain suspended. Rather than illustrating this object directly, the painting explores a more fundamental relationship between the transient and the structures capable of temporarily containing it.
Dreams themselves occupy a comparable threshold. While experienced, their images and connections can feel immediate and coherent; once brought into waking consciousness, they may fragment, transform or disappear. In Traum im seidenen Netz, intersecting gestures and layers seem to hold such fragments together while simultaneously allowing them to dissolve.
The collaborative process adds another dimension to this structure. Two artistic impulses enter the same pictorial field, responding to, interrupting and extending one another. The resulting network is therefore not only an image of connection, but the material trace of one: a shared space in which perception, gesture and imagination could temporarily meet.
