Sun Behind Clouds Remi

Sun Behind Clouds Remi condenses turquoise, red, yellow and violet into a layered surface traversed by black vertical lines. Earlier colours remain visible along the edges, within ruptures and between the upper layers. Obscuration is therefore never complete.

The sun appears not as a depicted celestial body, but through its effect on the pictorial field. Yellow and red passages break through the turquoise, while the black lines interrupt and rearticulate the flow of colour. Light becomes perceptible as an indirect yet structuring presence: its source remains hidden, while its energy continues to alter everything visible.

Sun Behind Clouds Remi and Sun Remi form a pair presenting two different conditions of the same motif. There, the sun expands radially and immediately; here, it remains active beneath shifting atmospheric layers.

Weather becomes a model of change and perception. Visibility is temporary; presence is not. The painting’s optimism lies in this distinction: clouds may alter and conceal the light, but they cannot extinguish it.
