Periskop belongs to the Skopein series, whose title derives from the Ancient Greek for looking or examining. Across Horoskop, Teleskop and Periskop, observation is approached through different distances, instruments and directions of view.

A periscope permits vision without direct exposure. It looks past an obstruction and shifts the position from which a scene becomes legible. The work takes this displaced viewpoint as its central condition: perspective is never neutral, and what remains hidden is shaped by where the observer stands.

Rather than offering a complete image, Periskop holds perception at an angle. Its changes of scale and direction invite the eye to move around what cannot be confronted head-on.
