GROUP EXHIBITION

UNKNOWN FRACTURES

Reinbeckhallen / Spreehalle Berlin, Berlin, Germany

6–8 July 2023

Exhibiting Artist

UNKNOWN FRACTURES brought together positions from visual art, music and design in the exhibition hall of the Reinbeckhallen in Berlin. Presented within PANTOPIA Festival Vol.04, the group exhibition created a multidisciplinary environment centred on artistic exchange, different perspectives and encounters across disciplines.

Marlon Nikolai participated as an exhibiting artist with a selection of six paintings: Mittagssonne auf Capri, Sonnenstich auf Ibiza, Sonnenaufgang auf Guadeloupe, Singularität, Baking Cookies with The Angels.

The presentation brought together works concerned with perception, atmosphere and states of experience. Across the exhibited paintings, colour, gesture and material operate as carriers of sensations and impressions that resist purely linguistic description.

UNKNOWN FRACTURES formed part of a wider programme of exhibitions, installations, performances and music taking place around the Spreehalle and Reinbeckhallen, situating Nikolai’s presentation within a broader interdisciplinary cultural context in Berlin-Schöneweide.

Nikolai presented six paintings at UNKNOWN FRACTURES: Mittagssonne auf Capri, Sonnenstich auf Ibiza, Sonnenaufgang auf Guadeloupe, Singularität, Bacon Cookies and The Angels.

The selection brought together works in which colour, gesture and material establish distinct atmospheric and perceptual states. Presented in dialogue with other artistic positions and disciplines, the paintings formed Nikolai’s contribution to the exhibition’s wider exploration of exchange, perspective and interdisciplinary encounter.

Placement Context
The work in relation to space, light and collector environment.

UNKNOWN FRACTURES was presented in the exhibition hall of the Reinbeckhallen as part of PANTOPIA Festival Vol.04. The exhibition brought visual art into a wider programme spanning music, performance, installation and design, creating a context in which different artistic disciplines and perspectives could encounter one another.

Within this setting, Nikolai’s six paintings were presented as part of a broader constellation of contemporary artistic positions rather than as an isolated presentation.
