Fields of Experience
Fields of Experience examines how an encounter becomes perceptible: through attention, sensory channels, bodily position, movement, memory, context and consciousness. Perception is not passive reception but an active relation between work, situation and viewer.
Perception as Active Relation
A work does not appear in the same way under every condition. Light, distance, viewpoint and spatial situation continually alter the encounter. Meaning therefore resides neither exclusively in the work nor exclusively in the viewer; it emerges relationally between material formation, situation and individual perception.
Sensory Channels
The practice works primarily through visual, tactile and kinaesthetic-spatial perception. Colour, transparency, reflection, focus and figure-ground relations structure the visual field. Surface, fracture, smoothness and material depth activate haptic imagination, while sound, rhythm and silence may extend the encounter in interdisciplinary situations.
Threshold
The threshold marks a transition in which something not yet conscious, differentiated or sensorially accessible begins to enter experience. It does not produce what lies beyond immediate visibility; it changes the conditions under which an aspect can become perceptible.
Attention, Memory & Context
Attention selects and differentiates what can enter experience. Memory, expectation, cultural inscription and the immediate context of an encounter participate in how a work appears. Perception is therefore situated and remains open to renewed interpretation.
Body, Movement & Space
Scale, proximity, distance and movement in front of a work generate a bodily and spatial relation. The viewer does not remain outside the work but becomes part of the conditions through which it appears. Seeing is accompanied by orientation, haptic imagination and an awareness of one’s own position.
Resonance & Consciousness
Resonance describes a responsive relation: an encounter continues within perception rather than ending at the visible surface. Conscious and preconscious processes, affect, intuition and implicit knowledge may participate without being reduced to a fixed message. The work opens a field in which these relations can be experienced without being conclusively decoded.
These questions meet the physical conditions explored in Cosmos, Matter & Relations and the concrete materials and motifs gathered in Artistic Language.
